G2 Vision envelope Untitled Spring is around the corner and that means that mariners everywhere are getting ready to tune up their electronics to perform in tip-top shape when the weather turns and the fish start biting. We know that in addition to some seasonal fine-tuning, those on the water also want to have the most-up-to-date charts available. So today, just in time for spring, we released the 2010 versions of our BlueChart g2 and BlueChart g2 Vision marine cartography. Our unique BlueCharts make it easy to see and identify intertidal zones, depth contours, spot soundings, navaids, wrecks, obstructions and more. The new BlueCharts add increased detail and dimension and offer improved transition between zoom levels and harmonious changes across chart boundaries. The new charts also add a safety shading feature for depth contours, as well as new animated currents that indicate current direction and strength.

The 2010 BlueCharts are currently available from the Garmin site, or through one of our participating dealers. In April, the new g2 and g2 Vision offerings will also be available as a download from Garmin.com.

AIS300_HR_700 With the Miami International Boat Show around the corner, we just announced the Garmin AIS 300 – a receive-only AIS traffic monitoring solution. This space-saving black box receiver enables monitoring of other nearby Class A and Class B AIS-enabled vessels that may pose a collision risk. Having an AIS traffic monitoring system on board can play an invaluable role in crowded channels or under low-visibility conditions. With an AIS, you can clearly identify and monitor other vessels in your vicinity, minimizing the risk of collision. The AIS 300 is NMEA 2000 certified, so installation and integration into the Garmin system is quick and easy. The new Garmin AIS 300 receiver is the first of its kind with both NMEA 0183 and NMEA 2000 support. The show kicks off tomorrow, so check back here for more pictures from the showthroughout the week. And if you’re in town, be sure to stop by the Garmin booth (#1689) and check out all the new products!

GHP10 _HR_0001[1] If the cold winter weather has got you day dreaming about spring, you might have already started thinking about what electronic upgrades and additions to add to your boat when the weather turns. One upgrade that’s certain to be on a lot of boater’s minds is an autopilot. So the guys over at Marine Electronics Reviews have been busy installing and testing Garmin’s GHP 10 Autopilot with its patented Shadow Drive technology and have recently posted their two-part review where they discuss installation and operation, including slow speed trolling, as well as navigating to waypoints and along routes. They hooked up the GHP 10 to a GPSMAP 5212 touchscreen plotter via the NMEA 2000 network, and reported “rock solid course tracking.” Especially for a long-haul excursion, they said their “crew was impressed and very happy they didn’t have to steer manually for hours a day.” Check out the full review and see for yourself how the GHP 10 is reliable, easy to use, and there when you need it.
