If you don’t already follow @Garmin on Twitter, there’s never been a better time to get on board. Last Friday at noon, we kicked off a five-week sweepstakes in which two lucky winners each week will win a top-of-the-line nüvi 3790T simply by being chosen randomly from everyone who follows @Garmin and “retweets” the specific key phrase announced at noon each Friday. Last Friday, for example, the instructions went out to “RT to enter: Follow @Garmin, Week1= #slimGarmin3790 & enter for chance to win nüvi 3790T! Rules http://bit.ly/3790info“
So if you follow us on Twitter, all you have to do is hit “retweet” on the weekly key phrase and Twitter will take care of the rest. If you don’t follow us – yet – don’t worry, we won’t take it personally. Yet. Just hit the follow button at http://twitter.com/Garmin or from whatever program you use for your Twitter feed. To be eligible to win, you have to retweet the entire phrase, be following Garmin, and be a resident of the U.S. (Sorry that this one is only in the States, but our international offices always have some fun up their sleeves as well.) And be sure to retweet the key phrase each and every week throughout the contest, because we start from scratch every Friday at noon. Click here to go to the Week 1 key phrase to retweet. To learn more about the nüvi 3790T that you might win, check out our interactive minisite and these tutorial videos. Good luck, and spread the word!

The sleek, stylish and strikingly thin nüvi 3790T can also add PC Magazine’s Editors’ Choice award to its list of bragging rights. That’s right, after taking the new nüvi for a test drive, PC Mag claimed, ”Garmin nüvi 3790T raises the bar for portable navigation devices,” and awarded this new beauty Editors’ Choice! Their review praises the 3790T for being “the slimmest and most capable GPS we’ve tested to date,” and later goes on to say, “the 3790T is a premiere hybrid navigation device for walkers and drivers alike.” To learn more about the new pencil-thin 3700 series and its many high-end features, including its multi-touch glass display, nüRoute technology with trafficTrends and myTrends, and voice-activated navigation, check out the mini-site, and watch the video below to see it in action.

The nϋvi 3790T will be in stores soon, so third-party media reviews are starting to appear. One of the most common responses so far is about the new design. A leading consumer electronics publication summed it up well, “Garmin’s new nϋvi 3700 series was designed from the get-go to be thin and sexy.” Their reaction is because the nϋvi 3790T is about the thickness of a pencil — or .35 inches thick for those of you who are into exact specs. Another review was impressed with the voice recognition system and said it’s “one of the best voice-recognition systems on the market.” The voice recognition system is cool and different from what we’ve done in the past. Whereas other Garmin devices with speech recognition had a separate button to activate the voice recognition, the 3790T uses a customizable wakeup phrase. Whenever you’re driving and want to use the voice recognition feature, you simply say the wakeup phrase and the nuvi 3790T will be ready to accept your vocal commands. Learn about other cool features on our new nϋvi 3700 site.

Summer’s here and there’s always something new to do at the Garmin Chicago Store. Become a summer star and record your own voice onto your nüvi with Garmin’s new Voice Studio application. With Voice Studio, you can record custom voices that you later download to your Garmin navigator for voice prompts. 30-minute appointments on the Voice Studio Booth at the Chicago Store are offered to nüvi owners and can be made online or in-store. It’s a great way to add more personality to your device – all you have to do is record phrases like “traffic ahead” or “proceed to highlighted route” and we’ll make sure it’s downloaded to your device.
While you’re at the store, be sure to check out the stylish new nüvi 3700 series that’s now on display and bundled with a portable friction mount, wall charger and case. Models with a “T” also include subscription-free traffic alerts so you can avoid delays on the way to the pool or summer BBQs. Customers can even try one out for a day through the Garmin Store’s Rental Program – or, if you want to test it for a few days, three- and seven-day specials are available. We offer a wide array of products in the rental program including the Forerunner 310XT and Approach G5. And if you decide you can’t live without it, all rental fees are credited toward a device purchase.
Later this month, you’ll see us at the Chicago Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon at McCormick Place. In partnership with Girls on the Run, you’ll be able bring in your old GPS-enabled Forerunner and receive $25 off the purchase of a new one. Older units are donated to Girls on the Run as part of Garmin’s recent sponsorship of SoleMates, the adult charity runner program benefiting Girls on the Run.
