Wayfinder Navigator for the new Sony Ericsson P990
Sony Ericsson’s new P990 smartphone will be equipped with Wayfinder System’s popular navigation tool Navigator. Irrespective of network provider, P990 users all over Europe* will have direct access to the navigation tool as well as a free trial period directly from the Memory Stick. The application is being showcased at 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona this week.
"Sony Ericsson’s new smartphone has a number of new clever functions that will make the user’s life easier, and Wayfinder’s contribution to this is our prize winning mobile navigation solution Navigator, which helps users find their way fast and easy with turn-by-turn instructions", says Magnus Nilsson, CEO Wayfinder Systems.
Find W-LAN hotspots with Wayfinder
Wayfinder Navigator can be used as a stand-alone map application or together with a small Bluetooth GPS box that keeps track of your position. Maps, detailed down to street level, are available for Europe as well as an extensive information source with three million points of interest that for example provide details on airports, hotels, restaurants and other interesting locations. Apart from opening hours and à la carte menus, the user can also see where WiFi hotspots are available. The maps are continuously updated against a database and are therefore always up-to-date – not like printed maps and city guides.
"Mobile navigation applications have proven very popular among operators and Wayfinder has been successfully bundled in various ways with Sony Ericsson’s previous smartphones. The combination of Wayfinder’s software and the new WiFi hotspot finder feature will allow P990 users who travel a lot to make use of WLAN to access their e-mail or corporate network in for example airports and hotel lobbies", says Ulf Wretling, Director, Head of Content Planning & Management at Sony Ericsson.
A Try & Buy version of the Wayfinder Navigator will be supplied on the Memory Stick that comes with the Sony Ericsson P990. From there, Wayfinder Navigator can easily be installed and used immediately irrespective of the network provider*. For five days, users will be able to navigate for free and can then easily pay for an extended subscription through Wayfinder’s mobile Web shop.
