Stellus System, a leading system integrator of wireless communication products, announced today the production release of their Palm TX, Treo650 and LifeDrive drivers for their StarNet SD GPS receiver – a high-performance, rugged GPS (Global Positioning System) receiver with a SDIO (Secure Digital Input/Output) interface. Simply plug in the StarNet GPS receiver into your Palm handheld and you can use it for in-car navigation, recreation, asset tracking, surveying or other location-specific information applications.
“There is a very large user-base for the TX, Treo650 and LifeDrive handhelds worldwide and these users have been requesting drivers to enable Stellus’ StarNet GPS receiver on their handhelds,” said Craig Conkling, CEO of Stellus Systems. “In addition, no longer is Bluetooth GPS needed to interface to your Palm handheld, just download the drivers and plug in our solution and go!” he added.
Stellus has partnered with L1 Technologies, the provider of the SDIO GPS driver for Palm OS®, to facilitate the successful introduction of its product. “Stellus has done a tremendous job engineering StarNet to meet the demands of discriminating customers worldwide”, said Dan Galatro, Vice President of L1 Technologies, Inc. “The design and convenience of this unit will be appreciated by all who purchase this product.”
StarNet is a GPS receiver accessory that puts navigation and find-and-locate capabilities for home or business addresses, ATMs, restaurants and recreational activities (such as golf, boating and hiking), at your fingertips – a map-in-your-hand that helps you get where you’re going. The Palm handheld market is poised for SDIO accessories, such as GPS, and Stellus’ SD GPS solution is compatible with all Palm handhelds.
Stellus’ innovative design combines a high-performance GPS antenna and receiver, with a SDIO interface IC (integrated circuit), in a compact housing that fits in your brief case or pocket and weighs less than one ounce. StarNet consumes less than 200 mW in tracking mode and has an accuracy of 3 meters (CEP – 50% of the time) and 6 meters (2DRMS – 95% of the time).
“Our product’s unique design is robust and versatile, making it easy to use in both Palm and Pocket PC-based mobile devices,” said Craig. “With the release of our TX, Treo650 and LifeDrive drivers, we are continuing to enable StarNet to meet the market demands of our Palm partners and customers,” he added.
