Mio C520 navigation device features text-to-speech, wide and split-screen functionality

Mio DigiWalker C520 portable GPS navigation and entertainment device, originally shown at CES 2007, is now available to North American customers. The widescreen device boasts several “firsts” for Mio’s product lineup, including a large 4.3-inch split-screen display, text-to-speech driving instructions and enhanced Bluetooth(R) capabilities.
The most striking feature of the C520 is the large 4.3-inch widescreen display, which can be set to either a full-screen map view or a unique split-screen view. This setting can display additional information about upcoming intersections or provide dynamic lists of approaching point of interest locations as defined by the user. For example — the C520 can be set to show all upcoming movie theatres, gas stations or Italian restaurants.
“As the form and function of GPS continues to evolve, we feel wide is where it’s at,” said Kiyoshi Hamai, North American sales director, Mio Technology Ltd. “Many of our customers are asking for enhanced displays, and we felt we had to go bigger just to fit in all the new features of the C520.”
The Mio C520 speaks to the user with more than its visual appeal. Generic driving instructions like “right-turn in 500 yards” are left in the rear-view mirror with the C520’s text-to-speech functionality. The driver is given clear voice prompts, calling out actual street names in English — such as “right turn onto Main Street” — making it easier than ever to keep your eyes on the road while driving.
Taking full advantage of advances in wireless technology, the C520 offers a wide range of Bluetooth options. The device pairs with a variety of Bluetooth-compatible cell phones and uses the built-in speaker and microphone to enable hands-free phone calls while driving. Most Bluetooth stereo headsets are supported for a complete wireless entertainment experience when using the built-in digital video player. And for the ultimate road trip, the C520 syncs with many Bluetooth-enabled car stereo systems so an entire digital music library can be enjoyed through the car’s speaker system.
The Mio DigiWalker C520 comes pre-loaded with U.S. and Canadian maps, more than 6 million point of interest locations, and is ready to operate in minutes with no computer set-up required. Digital video, audio and photo files are easily loaded using the built-in SD/MMC slot.
The MSRP for the Mio DigiWalker C520 is $399.95 U.S.
