TeleNav today announced the availability of TeleNav’s GPS Navigator, a Java-based GPS navigation application that offers visual and audible, turn-by-turn driving directions and mapping, on the BlackBerry 7100i from Research In Motion (RIM). TeleNav GPS Navigator first launched on the BlackBerry 7520(TM) in May 2005 as the first GPS navigation application available on the BlackBerry(R) platform. TeleNav, which is similar to the in-car GPS navigation systems found in luxury vehicles, displays maps, graphical driving cues, speed and direction, and provides audible turn-by-turn directions to help drivers get to their desired locations.

NordNav today announced the full commercial release of its NordNav E5000 embedded software receivers for Mobile GPS Positioning at the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. NordNav’s E5000 Mobile Solution can be easily embedded into most portable processors and reference design platforms including ARM9, Texas Instruments OMAP and Intel XSCALE. By taking advantage of existing processing power, NordNav’s solution saves space and requires substantially smaller footprint in the host device. The highly effective acquisition engine also provides faster time to first fix than the typical hardware GPS receiver, resulting in a greatly enhanced user experience.

SiRF Technology today unveiled an extremely small multimode A-GPS chip, the GSCi-5000, optimized to address the space and cost constraints of cellular handsets. "In the mobile arena today, ‘thin is in’; the ultra-slender phones are jumping off the retail shelves. GSCi-5000′s small foot print makes it ideal for these applications, and its low cost GPS subsystem implementation will help us expand our multimode AGPS penetration into the mid-range segment of the market," according to Kanwar Chadha, founder and vice president of marketing for SiRF. "Supported by the expertise of SiRF’s global organization, we are also pleased that last year’s acquisition of Motorola’s GPS division has led to the development of this innovative offering."
