Sprint just recently announced that Google’s Nexus One would be coming to Sprint but they did not say when or for how much. Sprint claims they have a 3G network coverage 10 times the size of T-Mobile’s and twice as much as AT&T’s.

The phone will not be sold at any Sprint stores, only online from Google at google.com/phone.
Google’s online consumer channel was created to provide an efficient way to connect online users with selected Android phones. Nexus One will not be available in any Sprint retail channels. It will be available directly from Google at google.com/phone.

Sprint currently has the “Everything Data 450 with Any Mobile, Anytime” which gets you unlimited calling with any mobile phone in America, unlimited text and unlimited Web for $70/month which is a really good deal – provided you don’t call land lines that often.

Here are some hardware specs of the Nexus One:

  • 3.7″ AMOLED 480×800 WVGA display
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8250 chipset
  • 5MP auto focus with flash and geo tagging
  • 512MB Flash, 512MB RAM
  • 4GB removable SD Card (expandable to 32GB)
  • Dynamic noise suppression
  • 3.5mm stereo headphone jack
  • Removable 1400 mAh battery

Magellan will soon be announcing a new handheld specifically made for geocaching called Magellan eXplorist GC. From what we could gather from a page that no longer exists on GPStracklog the eXplorist GC will not be a touchscreen device but be very bright. You don’t go geocaching in the night do you?

It looks like Magellan wanted to announce this first… We’ll have to wait a couple of more days it looks like.

Knuckles In perusing the Garmin blogs inbox, we just had to share this comment that Andy submitted this week in response to Dr. Nightmare, just one of the free downloadable voices in the Garmin Garage. (And yes, we love the fact that they’re having fun with this despite the fact that Halloween is seven months away.)

“Love the voice. Ours has the habit of saying creepy things at the most opportune moments when looking for a house to buy. When we arrived, if the house was no good, he would say ‘Welcome to this dreadful destination.’ A friend was in the back of our car, and as she leaned over to look in the rearview mirror to check her hair, he said ‘Is that a goblin in the rearview mirror?’ She then replied ‘No its me.’ But the most uncanny of them all was just the other day, we were driving slowly through a small town when the vehicle in front of us stopped at the pedestrian crossing. As he did so a cat by the side of the road crossed in front of this vehicle. As we drove off Dr. Nightmare said “Did a cat just cross your path?”! Weird or what?!”

Thanks Andy – and Dr. Nightmare – for making our day. To join the fun, just download the good doctor – or his friends Elfred the Elf, Squirrely, Yeti or Team Garmin’s Matt White – from GarminGarage.com, where you can also find dozens of vehicle icons for spring road trips and summer adventures.

Garmin told the developers of their popular software – Garmin Connect – that they were closing down their San Fran office and moving everybody to Kansas. This obviously didn’t go so well. The Garmin Connect connect team now put up this website, telling people they’re not going anywhere, while showcasing their skills.

On the other hand this could related to the fact that the migration from motionbased.com (which was bought by Garmin) to Garmin connect went nothing like planned and all the features that people loved didn’t make it to release software. Now Edge, Forerunner, etc users all have to rely on Garmin Connect.

If you’ve used both motionbased and Garmin Connect please tell us what you think.

Garmin just announced two new color schemes for their Garmin Edge 500 devices – a highly popular device among pro cyclists. The two new colors are called argyle Edge 500 and the neutral Edge 500, both of which will be officially launched at the Tour of California, this coming mid-May.

Garmin Edge 500 first came out last September and has been selling for around $350. Some of the features of the Edge 500 includes ANT+ wireless, tracking things like speed, distance, time, elevation, and even calories. Since elevation data from the GPS signals isn’t all that accurate Garmin Edge 500 actually uses an barometric altimeter.

Garmin Edge also pairs wirelessly with Garmin speed/cadence sensors and features advanced heart rate-based calorie computation when used with a Garmin heart rate monitor. Edge 500 also displays temperature readings, changes time zones automatically and alerts riders if they’re moving but the timer is not running. With up to 18 hours of battery life, Edge 500 features a low-profile, quarter-turn mount that fits easily on the stem or handlebars. The new argyle Edge 500 is packaged with Garmin’s premium soft-strap heart rate monitor, speed/cadence sensor, bike mount, AC charger and USB cable. The neutral Edge 500 comes with the bike mount, AC charger and USB cable, and it can be paired with the other optional accessories when purchased separately to best suit each specific cyclist’s needs.
